Matthew Winkler is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of White Hill Litigation Partners, where he advises investors, creditors, and businesses on maximizing recoveries from complex and distressed situations, with a particular focus on capital trapped in litigation-related, legal services, and other special situations investments.

Matt brings more than 20 years of experience leading complex investments, restructurings, and special situations at premier financial institutions, including Benefit Street Partners and Goldman Sachs. His background combines institutional capital markets expertise with direct operating, restructuring, and corporate governance experience, positioning him to help stakeholders navigate challenging situations where preserving and recovering value requires strategic, operational, and financial solutions.

At Benefit Street Partners, Matt founded and built the firm’s legal assets strategy, investing across litigation finance, law firm platforms, Arizona Alternative Business Structures (ABS), and other legal services-related opportunities. His experience includes complex restructurings, liability management transactions, operational turnarounds, strategic repositionings, and bespoke capital solutions designed to maximize enterprise value and improve recovery outcomes.

Matt also brings significant public and private company board experience. He currently serves on the board of Altisource Portfolio Solutions and previously served on the board of JAKKS Pacific, with committee responsibilities spanning audit, compensation, cyber/risk, executive, and nominating/governance functions. His board work has focused on capital structure redesigns, operational stabilization, stakeholder alignment, liquidity enhancement, and long-term value preservation.

In addition to his investment and governance background, Matt has served in hands-on operating leadership roles within legal services organizations, including as Head of the Operating Committee for McDonald Worley PC and Managing Member of Copper State Legal Services, providing direct experience overseeing financial planning, operational restructuring, budgeting, and strategic execution.

Matt received a B.A. from Brown University, where he was Captain of the Varsity Lacrosse Team.
